Life is like shoe polish...

OK, here's the game. You tell me why life is like shoe polish. All of those that come up with a decent answer get a surprise from me. Ready, set, go!

life is like shoes polish because no matter how perfect you start out the day, you still come home with a few marks to remind you of the things you went through

When I polish my shoes I always feel so proud about how hard I have worked and at how nice they like. "How shiny and wonderful looking" I often say to myself. That part of shoe shining is when everything is nice in life and we have plenty of time and energy to work on ourselves and everything that's going on in our lives. Often there is also a phase of shoe shining where I take my shoes with me around as I finish getting ready, mostly I think to protect them from any impending doom. I think we do the same thing. It's like hiding our talents just so we don't get "scuffed" and then, when the time comes to go out into the real world, I put on my shoes. Probably by the time I step outside there are scuffs, but you know, it's worth it. I feel good about my shoes. People can tell that at least I tried. They're definitely better off than if I hadn't shined them. Shining our shoes is all the preparation and self-improvement that we do, and the outside is the world. That last bit relates to life inasmuch (do you like that I used that word just now?) as it is not realistic to expect our perception of what will happen in our lives to be realized, particularly those times where we're less aware of what preparation we've made. By that I mean that when it comes down to the nitty-gritty parts of life that are hard and the time for preparation is past. No more shining. The scuffs will come, but if you never shine your shoes, they'll never have even any shiny spots, but if you do, they will get scuffed, but the shine that is left is worth it, and the knowledge that you did shine them. Does that make sense? It's a really long ramble, but thanks for the chance to think about it :)

life is like shoe polish in that it comes in relatively small amounts. because if we were given larger amounts of it would dry out before we used it all!

also, it comes in a circular tin... just like the circle of life.

how about the more you get buffed or buffeted in life the more polished and shiny you are. I know profound, huh?

life comes in many different colors :)
some stay longer than others.
and they get old and crusty if not used. you know how old people can get.. well you know...
shoe polish only covers up the marks on the outside but not the soul (sole) that is why it doesn't stay all shiny... you can't hide your mistakes :)
